Soundgarden Likely Not Going to Continue Without Chris Cornell
Since the tragic death of Chris Cornell, the future of Soundgarden has been unknown, but guitarist Kim Thayil gave a pretty definitive answer in a recent interview.
In speaking with the Seattle Times, Thayil said of he, drummer Matt Cameron and bassist Ben Shepherd doing any future work under the Soundgarden name that, “No, I don’t think that’s anything we’d give reasonable consideration to at this point. When I say ‘at this point,’ I mean perhaps ever [laughs]…I don’t know really what kind of thing is possible or what we would consider in the future. It’s likely nothing. The four of us were that. There were four of us and now there’s three of us, so it’s just not likely that there’s much to be pursued other than the catalog work at this point.”
However, Thayil did mention fans can expect some archival catalog releases are in the works and is in talks with Sub Pop on the potential release of live recordings and other unreleased music.
