VIDEO: Talinda Bennington on the Warning Signs Exhibited by Chester Bennington
It’s been nearly a year since Chester Bennington took his own life, and his widow, Talinda Bennington, bravely took part in a CNN panel discussion where she talked about the suicide warning signs she retrospectively recognized in her husband.
Talinda cited “hopelessness, change of behavior, isolation” when looking back on Chester in the time leading up to his suicide.
While Talinda also said she’s more educated now in what to look for, she mentioned, “We were on a family vacation, and he decided to go back home to do a television commercial. This was not a time where we or any of our family suspected this to happen, which is terrifying… We thought everything was okay.”
Suicide signs to look for, per the CNN panel, include, “Feeling hopeless, like a burden to others; depression/anxiety; lack of interest/withdrawing; easily angered or agitated; and increased drinking or substance use.”
While it’s important to circulate information about services like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, it’s equally, if not more, important to know of warning signs like the ones above and to reach out to those you see exhibiting these behaviors. Those who are suffering won’t always reach out for help. Educate yourself so you’re able to help others in need.
