Robert DeLeo Reflects on Scott Weiland’s Passing
The second anniversary of Scott Weiland‘s death passed quietly on Sunday (December 3).
Weiland was in the midst of a solo tour with his band the Wildabouts when he was found dead on his tour bus in Bloomington, Minn., on an unexpected off day after a show scheduled for that night in Medina, Minn. had been canceled. Weiland’s death was ruled an accidental drug overdose, and a funeral was held on December 11 in Los Angeles.
Weiland’s band Stone Temple Pilots had suffered through his drug addictions and erratic behaviors for years, but as the group released a deluxe 25th anniversary edition of its 1992 debut album Core earlier this year, bassist Robert DeLeo tells us that the group was still devastated by his death:
“An immense sadness for many reasons, for many reasons, but ultimately what saddens me is he’s not here to enjoy the reissue of our first record we made together. I mean, that’s really sad to me, that he’s not here to share in this from the beginning, you know?”
STP has continued since Weiland’s departure from the band, first with the late Chester Bennington and now with Jeff Gutt. The group will be releasing a new album during early 2018 and going on tour.
