Green Day Parts Ways With Manager of Over 20 Years
Green Day has announced a split with Pat Magnarella, who’s managed the band since 1996.
Neither side has made a statement about the move, but it’s both surprising and significant; The group members profusely thanked Magnarella — who also helped produce the American Idiot musical and cast album and ran Billie Joe Armstrong‘s Adeline Records label — during their 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, with Armstrong crediting Magnarella for helping him get treatment for substance addiction issues.
Green Day, which is currently on tour in North America, is reportedly planning to sign with Crush Music, which also handles Fall Out Boy, Lorde and Sia, among others.
…Meanwhile, Armstrong has spoken out about the recent racial violence in Charlottesville, N.C., writing a heartfelt Facebook message that the incident “goes beyond the point of anger. It makes me sad and desperately shocked. I f***ing hate racism more than anything. Music and social justice have always gone hand in hand with me. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for ‘the time they are a changing’…some people don’t agree. the spirit of Green Day has always been about rising above oppression and sticking up for what you believe in and singing at the top of your lungs…Nazi punks f*** off.”
