Chris Cornell Memorial Statue Commissioned, To Be Displayed In Seattle
Chris Cornell‘s family is planning to erect a memorial statue for the late Soundgarden singer in his home town of Seattle.
Cornell’s widow Vicky tells the Seattle Times that she’s commissioned sculptor Wayne Toth to create the piece, which should be ready in about seven months.
“He has already given me a design and the children and I love it,” Vicky Cornell says. A location for the statue has not yet been determined, and Cornell is welcoming public input; “He is Seattle’s son, and we will be bringing him home and honoring him, I hope, with all of you, your love and support.”
Toth is best known for a Johnny Ramone statue at the Hollywood Forever cemetery in Los Angeles, where Cornell is also buried.
Vicky Cornell recently announced a $100,000 seed grant for the Chris Cornell Music Therapy program with the Seattle non-profit Childhaven.
Chris Cornell committed suicide on May 18 in his Detroit hotel room following a Soundgarden concert at the city’s Fox Theatre.
