Dave Grohl Spends Birthday Making Meals for People Impacted by LA Wildfires
Dave Grohl swapped the stage for a kitchen on January 14, spending his 56th birthday cooking for displaced LA wildfire victims through Feed the Streets LA.
Social media buzzed as Feed the Streets LA shared videos of the rock star cooking huge pots of chili and serving food to affected families. This is his second time helping the group, after his March 2023 effort to feed homeless individuals. At that time, Feed the Streets LA’s Instagram noted that Grohl contacted the organization personally and wanted to help make and distribute meals. They wrote, “He spent 18 hours straight smoking brisket, ribs and pork—with a cooking crew. They stayed up all night and into the sunrise.”
The Foo Fighters frontman has a history of stepping up and feeding those in need of a meal with some hardy BBQ. In February 2023, Grohl towed his large smoker to the Los Angeles-based homeless shelter called The Hope Mission. Once there, he cooked countless pounds of meat for 450 unhoused people and 50 staff members. TMZ reported Grohl showed up at the shelter around midnight and then proceeded to prepare food for the next 16 hours.
In December 2023, Grohl used some time off while on tour in Australia to cook some BBQ for unhoused people in Melbourne. As previously reported, Grohl partnered with the local non-profit organization The Big Umbrella. Together, they cooked and served over 400 meals to those in need. The organization wrote via Instagram, “Our friends on the street were treated to an epic American style bbq with all the trimmings prepared by rock legend Dave Grohl of the @foofighters.”
The LA wildfires have forced 180,000 residents to leave their homes, destroying 12,000 buildings in its path since January 7. The death count has reached 24, while rescue teams continue looking for 16 missing people. Firefighters keep working to stop the spreading flames.
