’A Complete Unknown’ Comes Up Winless at Golden Globes
At the 2025 Golden Globe ceremony, A Complete Unknown walked away empty despite its three nominations.
The Bob Dylan biopic was up for Best Picture - Drama, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Timothée Chalamet came up short in the Best Actor category to Adrien Brody in The Brutalist, while Kieran Culkin’s performance in A Real Pain topped Edward Norton for Supporting Actor.
A Complete Unknown follows Dylan’s journey from 1961, when he first landed in New York City, through his controversial electric performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. This time marked his shift from folk to rock music. The film shows how music legends of the 1960s, including Joan Baez and Pete Seeger, shaped Dylan’s development. Their guidance helped turn him into a spokesperson for his generation
To step into Dylan’s shoes, Chalamet put in endless hours of preparation. He nailed the singer’s unique speaking style and picked up the harmonica. Off-screen, he took on producing duties as well.
“Bob wanted to be a rock ‘n’ roll star – Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Elvis Presley… Equally, I wanted to be a big movie actor.” Chalamet said in an interview with Apple Music. “I’m now deep in the church of Bob, and I feel like I get this opportunity to kinda be a bridge to this music.”
