MLB To Make Uniform Changes To Address Problems
Major League Baseball just implemented changes to the uniform makeup for all teams this season. Now, MLB uniform changes will happen again.
Yesterday, the league announced that due, in part, to a heavy amount of complaints from players, they will address some of the technical challenges we are seeing in the new uniform design. Nike is the new primary provider of MLB uniforms. The brand certainly put player comfort first when redesigning the construction of a baseball uniform. However, until the players put them through the grind of a full nine-inning game in the heat, it was hard to determine how well these threads would hold up.
“Major League Baseball plans to address its uniform fiasco after changes this spring to the standard jerseys and pants led to widespread complaints from players and fans,” ESPN explained.
Expect MLB Uniform Changes
Not many of these future adjustments will be widely recognizable by fans watching at home or at the ballpark. They will, however, tend to the requests coming from inside the league. Some of the complaints since the start of the season include the thin material being see-through, especially in the pants. In addition, the road gray uniform set also had a propensity to show dark sweat stains.
Lastly, the lettering on the back of the jersey was often too small or out of alignment. That, too, will be addressed.
“The changes, which will happen at the latest by the beginning of the 2025 season, will also include fixes to the pants, widely panned this spring for being see-through,” ESPN continued.
If you are wondering what is new about Nike’s build of MLB uniforms, the league outlined the key changes earlier this year. “Developed over multiple years, the Nike Vapor Premier jersey was engineered to improve mobility, moisture management and fit, while keeping sustainability in mind — bringing inspiration and innovation to athletes,” MLB states.
Furthermore, the material allows for 25% more stretch. Much of the intent behind the new uniform technology is for players to have a more breathable and lighter-weight fit. This 2024 design is applicable to every team and each of their uniform set options. That includes the home, away, alternate and City Connect option.
Until the changes are applied, players will simply have to make the most of the current design. Perhaps that includes being aware of what you are wearing underneath or having a backup jersey in the clubhouse to change into, especially as we get deeper into the hot and humid summer months.
