On this day in 1980: Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham passes away, aged 32
John Bonham Died 39 Years Ago Today
39 years ago today we lost one of the greatest drummers in rock history, Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham.
Bonham was found dead on Sept. 25, 1980 at Jimmy Page’s house, where the band had been rehearsing for an upcoming North American tour. It’s believed Bonham had consumed as many as 40 shots of vodka the night before.
Bonham’s death at the age of 32 was effectively the end for Led Zeppelin, who have performed only a handful of times since, most recently in 2007. His son, Jason Bonham, leads the Zeppelin tribute Jason Bonham’s LZE.
Is Bonham the greatest rock drummer ever? Should Zeppelin have found a replacement and continued on as a band?
