Why Do People Tend To Have A “Type” When Dating
If friends have ever accused you of having a “type” when it comes to dating, there’s actually some truth behind your repeated preference.
Despite claiming you’ll never go out again with someone like your ex, a new multi-year study of 332 people finds that you probably will anyway.
“Our research suggests there’s a strong tendency to nevertheless continue to date a similar personality,” writes lead author Yoobin Park in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Co-author Geoff MacDonald notes, “The degree of consistency from one relationship to the next suggests that people may indeed have a ‘type’,” adding, you may want to rethink which traits you’re gravitating toward if you constantly have problems with partners.
