Heroic Officer In Minnesota Saves Teen From Car That Wouldn’t Stop Accelerating

A heroic officer in Minnesota saved a teen from a car that wouldn't stop accelerating! How scary would that be?

If you're driving a car, you want the gas to work when you step on it and the brake to work when you step on it. If the car keeps going after you've taken you're foot off the gas or won't brake you're going to be in some trouble! It sounds like that's what happened to one teen in Minnesota and thankfully this heroic officer put his life on the line to save the teenager.

You don't want this to happen to you. I wouldn't know what to do if this happened! You're essentially helpless unless there's some hero out there ready to step in and help. Thankfully, this teenager had someone willing to help otherwise it could have ended in disaster. The incident happened in Clay County, Minnesota.

According to Inforum, 18-year-old Sam Dutcher, of West Fargo, was driving near Harwood, North Dakota when his Honda Pilot took off. Sam tells Inforum, "I thought, 'Hey, this thing is accelerating and my foot is not on the gas." That would be something to be concerned about. Then, the car kept going faster and faster so he called his mom and 911. It was after those calls that Clay County Deputy Zach Johnson got Sam on the phone as he was approaching a busy US Highway 75 North and he asked some questions to figure out what was going on. He ensured there was nothing on the gas pedal and such. Inforum reports Sam was going 90 miles per hour at this point and even tried the e-brake but nothing was working.

They thought about using stop sticks but he was going too fast. Minnesota State Trooper Zach Gruver tells Inforum, "That intersection on Highway 32 is uncontrolled north and south so, at that point, my plan was to get up there and get the intersection blocked so we didn't have cars coming through when Sam was coming through at 113 miles per hour." With little time to act, Gruver took action and sped in front of Sam's vehicle and says he was going 130mph at the time and their patrol cars top out at 140. Having Sam crash into the patrol car was their only option. He obeyed and it was a horrible sound but it worked! Officer Gruver's heroic actions likely saved at least one life that night. He's even expecting his first child right now, per Inforum, but still put his own life on the line. Unbelievable story.
