Cape Coral Home Filled With Trash Has Caught The Attention Of The Mayor
Just a couple of days ago Fox4 reported on this home in Cape Coral, Fl, that had a yard full of trash and was home to squatters for months. Well, there have been many updates to this bizarre story.
Cape Coral mayor John Gunter’s attention was caught by this report and he even visited the property to take a look at the home itself. He immediately notified the city manager of what he saw and public works were called to clean out the yard. But apparently, there is just as much trash inside that still needs to be cleaned out.
Michael Mann, the owner of the home, was located at a Westin hotel nearby. He explained that he was in jail on charges of battery for the past few months and his wife was the one who had all the trash dumped off at his house.
His lawyer said, “She apparently invited these people over to the house and they just came by one day with the U-Haul and moved all their belongings and furniture and whatnot into the house, and then whatever they had that wouldn’t fit inside the house, they then put in the driveway, in the garage, and in the front yard.”
They got a court order to remove the people that were staying in the home, but they kept coming back and squatting after.
John Gunter said he is going to reevaluate city policies so that this doesn’t happen again.
He said, “We have to make sure that all of our policies that we have here in the City, that we can minimize the timeline and the effects to the community when you have something like this that is a possible public safety issue.”
Mann plans on moving back into the home after the mess is cleaned up.
