Mosquitoes Carrying West Nile Virus Found In Lee County
As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse. Now we have to worry about West Nile Virus in our own backyard.
An official mosquito-borne illness advisory was issued by the Florida Department Of Health on Wednesday after some chickens tested positive for the virus. The chickens are placed around Lee County to be tested regularly for mosquito-borne illnesses.
Eric Jackson of Lee County Mosquito Control said, “We found that there are chickens in various parts of the county that are testing positive for these antibodies. Which means, there are mosquitoes in those areas that are spreading that virus.”
So make sure to wear mosquito repellent this summer and drain any containers of still water such as birdbaths to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the vicinity of your home.
