Doctors expect cancer cases in the U.S. to jump dramatically, reaching over 2 million this year, with Florida alone seeing 171,990 new cases. Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in America, right behind heart disease. Someone gets diagnosed with cancer every 15 seconds.
Two local Relay For Life events are coming up to help fight back. NeoGenomics in Fort Myers is hosting one on March 29, and Aubrey Rogers High School in Naples will hold another on April 4.
These events celebrate 40 years since Dr. Gordy Klatt's first run in Tacoma. Now, the program runs in 35 countries with 1,200 locations. They've raised $6.9 billion to fight cancer — roughly $21 from every American.
