When it comes to learning a sport, one sport is the most searched for: more than basketball, football, baseball and hockey. Many people are getting into the swing of things, hitting the courses, and having a blast with golf. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a total newbie, something about golf hooks certain people in. According to a recent study, it's gaining popularity.

A study by online sports betting site, Betting-AZ, analyzed Google search data to reveal which sport Americans are most interested in learning. Their research analyzed data for over 45 sports of the last 12 months for search terms often associated with learning new sports, analyzing how many times terms such as "[sport] rules," "[sport] [facilities] near me" and "how to play [sport]" have been Googled on average.

Based on their study, golf has captured the most curiosity with an average monthly search volume of 1,373,100. While it may not demand the same physical intensity as some other sports, the site mentioned that golf compensates it with mental stimulation. Also, most people know how to play football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer, even if they aren't good at it. But they likely can follow those sports when watching them on tv. People may not be quite as familiar with how golf scoring works, or how to play.

Pickleball took fourth place, garnering considerable interest among people eager to learn and participate in the sport. The study's scope extends beyond these sports, diving into other sports, including bowling and boxing, providing an overview of the current sporting landscape.

In response to the study’s findings, a spokesperson from Betting-AZ said, "It’s fascinating to see which sports people are keenest to learn and play, with the data highlighting the popularity of golf at the top list and pickleball, which has recently increased in popularity."
