Monkeypox Is In Tampa
Over 300 Monkeypox cases have been confirmed in the United States so far, and now there have been three reported cases in the Tampa Bay area. Two cases are in Pinellas County, while one is in Polk County. Most of the Florida cases (25) have been reported in Broward County. The CDC has activated its Emergency Operations Center for Monkeypox, meaning special detection and treatment plans kick in immediately. This is not a sudden change for the CDC, they declared an outbrek of monkeypox way back in May. As of July 1st, most of the cases have been discovered in Los Angeles and New York City. The good news is, monkeypox vaccines already exist. In fact, after exposure to monkeypox, you still have up to 14 days to get a vaccine against it. However, you should get the vaccine as soon as possible after exposure to reduce the risk of a full-blown case of the disease. The CDC says prolonged contact is generally needed to contract the disease and contact through bed sheets or clothing is actually quite low. carriers are most contagious when they have an active rash.
