NASA Needs Volunteers To Pretend To Live On Mars
In preparation for when the time comes to send astronauts to Mars, NASA started taking applications last week for four volunteers to live in Mars Dune Alpha for a year. Mars Dune Alpha is a 1,700-square-foot Martian habitat inside a building at Johnson Space Center in Houston.
NBC2 reports that the volunteers, who will be paid, will do a simulation of a Martian exploration mission that includes ‘space’walks, limited communication, restricted food and resources, and equipment failures.
To be considered for the position, volunteers will be required to have a master’s degree in a science, engineering or math field or pilot experience, be a U.S. citizen, between the ages of 30 and 55 and in good physical health.
