In a close 4-3 vote, the Local Planning Agency gave the green light to plans for a controversial food truck park next to Fort Myers Beach's Pelican Watch condo, putting in place 27 specific conditions for construction.
On a hurricane-damaged 0.7-acre lot where Ian left only debris, developers plan to create a beer garden with live music. The site sits just 7.5 feet from the condo's pool, requiring special permits to work around normal building codes.
The Pelican Watch Condo Owners Association spent $10 million on hurricane repairs and strongly oppose the project. Owners are worried about ongoing noise, crowded streets, garbage problems, and dropping property values.
Councilmember Scott Safford has emphasized the need for a proper parking plan to avoid problems on nearby streets.
