After being closed for two years due to Hurricane Ian's destruction, the Fort Myers Beach Library will welcome visitors again on March 16.

The grand re-opening runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features a special ribbon-cutting ceremony. The first 300 people who register will get a free lunch and gelato. About 160 people have already registered to attend.

The third floor will host at least 13 local organizations with information tables. Food trucks will be available, including Cubano's, Detroit Dawgs, and Gelato-go Fort Myers.

Early birds can enjoy breakfast treats — cinnamon rolls and protein balls — while they last. The Pearl Street Band will provide live music, and Chester the Artist will do drawings for kids in the children's area.

A fire truck will be on-site for pictures unless emergency calls come in.

The bookstore is back with both new and used books. Staff will help fix expired library cards, with nonresidents paying $10 for six-month memberships.

Parking is free at the Myerside lot or in public spots nearby. All meters will be free until 2 p.m. to handle the expected turnout.
