Is wrapping a hoodie around your head the new sleep hack? One TikToker says it helps her fall asleep and now it’s taking off online with people giving it a shot.
People have gone to all sorts of strange attempts in an effort to fall asleep. Counting sheep? A warm glass of milk? Here’s how it works.
Would Wrapping A Hoodie Around Your Head Help You Sleep?
Callie Galey is responsible for starting the trend on TikTok. Sure, it looks absolutely ridiculous; however, people are saying it actually works! In the now viral video, Callie explains, “It’s so comfortable. I don’t know how to explain it. It works wonders”
You can see her with her entire head wrapped up in a hoodie sweatshirt in the video. All that’s exposed is the tip of her nose and her mouth. It appears to be wrapped around her head fairly tightly, as well. Certainly, it doesn’t look like it would be the most comfortable way to fall asleep. However, we all know looks can be deceiving.
While it may look like it could cause a panic attack in the middle of the night, there is a science behind it all. Basically, it’s the same concept as swaddling a baby. Not only does the hoodie remove light and sound, it also provides a comforting embrace and added sense of security that you might not even be aware of.
According to The New York Post, Dr. Jessica Andrade says, “…the slight pressure exerted by the sweatshirt could provide a cocoon-like effect, similar to a weighted-blanked, which has been shown to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality for some people.”
Yes, it may look rather ridiculous–but so do sleep masks, sleep-apnea machines, and more sleep remedies. However, if it works and helps us get quality sleep, we’ve shown we’re willing to look a little different. Nothing can stop us on our quest for quality sleep.

Peep Show: The Best Of Chuck The Freak
Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
