Florida Man Leaves Behind A Fortune In Baseball Cards
See, collecting isn’t a waste of time!
Dr. Thomas Newman passed away in January 2021 from COVID-19 complications, but left behind $20 million worth of baseball cards, according to Fox News.
Newman had over 1,000 sports-related cards: football, baseball, and even hockey!
These cards are dated back to 1880 and will be for sale to the highest bidder. JP Cohen, President of Memory Lane Auctions, said that the prices for rare, historic items have exploded in the market.
Newman had a 1933 Babe Ruth card (Goudey #53, PSA 9) in his collection which is expected to break the record of $5.2 million for any sports card, according to Cohen.
Amongst the cards, there were some of Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Ty Cobb, and Lou Gehrig, said Fox News.
There are also non-card-related collectibles such as a ball signed by the Great Bambino.
According to CNN, Newman’s collection is so extensive that it filled up an 18-foot U-Haul truck.
The online public auction starts on June 21 if anyone wants to empty out their savings account.
