Eddie Van Halen Memorial to be Considered by Pasadena City Council

An Eddie Van Halen memorial will be up for debate at an upcoming Pasadena City Council meeting.

Per Pasadena Now, "City Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian confirmed the item would appear on Monday’s agenda (October 26), but said additional information was not yet available."

Eddie and Alex Van Halen grew up in Pasadena, Calif. Many fans flocked to their childhood home and left flowers following news of EVH death from cancer on October 6.

Pasadena Now notes that current residents Randa Schmalfeld and Julie Kimura started a GoFundMe to raise money for a permanent tribute to the guitar icon in the city. As of publishing, they raised $5,924, eclipsing their goal of $3,000. Schmalfeld and Kimura note on the page that all money past their original goal will be donated to the Pasadena High School Music Program in EVH's name.

As for Pasadena City Council considering a permanent memorial, Schmalfeld told Pasadena Now, "We are delighted that the City Council is moving so quickly to consider a dedicated public space here in Van Halen’s hometown. We envision a place where fans can forever honor and celebrate the brilliance of Eddie Van Halen and the phenomenal success of Pasadena’s Hometown Band. The overwhelmingly positive response to our campaign demonstrates the desire of our community to honor Eddie and his bandmates. We are hopeful that the council will decide in our favor and we are looking forward to next steps in forever honoring Pasadena’s favorite Rock Stars!"
