A Cape Coral criminal took to a canal as a means of escape Friday, but the getaway was thwarted by waist deep water, mud and no place to go.

The incident took place Friday morning, in a canal between Southeast 6th Street and Southeast 5th Terrace in the Cape.

According to NBC 2 News, “Bettina Brueckl saw it happen right behind her home.

‘Suddenly I hear loud yelling and I run in the garage and I see a policeman coming right around the corner. This guy was already in the canal and there comes another police from the other side with a weapon in their hand.’

Officers confirmed they were looking for this man after he violated an injunction. But police are not releasing the man’s identity. The incident is under investigation.”
