VIDEO: ‘SNL’ Skit Delves Deep into Weezer Debate
Is Weezer still a good band or did they peak years ago? That debate was front-and-center during a very funny (and delightfully unexpected) skit on last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live.In the skit just titled “Weezer,” Leslie Jones and Matt Damon‘s characters blow up into a huge argument at a Christmas dinner party. Damon’s character describes himself as a “ride or die” Weezer fan, while Jones’ character says the band “put out two perfect albums, ‘Blue’ and Pinkerton, and the rest is pretty corny.”
What happens next is a debate that has likely happened too many times to count among Weezer fans.
Weezer, themselves, have had a lot of fun with the skit in its aftermath, with the band’s official Facebook and Twitter account posting these two “Ride or Die” graphics.

Rivers Cuomo went with an all-caps freakout, while drummer Patrick Wilson was clearly “Team Damon.” Even former bassist Matt Sharp got in on the commentary, especially since the topic of his departure almost led to Jones physically attacking Damon. Needless to say, whoever wrote this skit has clearly had this debate before.
