Some Insight Why Judas Priest Isn’t on the 2019 Rock Hall Ballot
Judas Priest received their first Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination last year, and while they were well-received in the fan vote, they failed to be nominated again this year. Here’s why.
Music journalist and Rock Hall nomination committee member Alan Light spoke with SiriusXM show Feedback about this metal matter (which was reported/transcribed by Future Rock Legends), and he said Priest had done “horrendously” when the Voting Committee ballots were tabulated. This led to the nomination committee to put their support behind Def Leppard, who as of publishing is currently in the lead of the Fan Vote on the Rock Hall’s official website.
This leads to the obvious question: Who’s on the “Voting Committee”?
Future Rock Legends’ website features a noted “incomplete list” of individuals listed as Voting Committee members, and it contains a range of music insiders, from critics to industry executives to musicians, many of which are Rock Hall inductees. Considering there are only two actual metal bands (Black Sabbath and Metallica) inducted into the Rock Hall, it makes a lot of sense why Judas Priest didn’t get a lot of votes. After all, when your Voting Committee supposedly contains the likes of Barry Gibb, Neil Diamond, Joan Baez, Don Henley, Bette Midler and many other musicians that, while talented in their own right, don’t know a thing about heavy metal, how can anyone really expect Judas Priest or any other major metal act to get a fair shake.
