Robert DeLeo Gives An Update On STP’s Singer Search
Stone Temple Pilots is getting ready to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its debut album Core, but fans are wondering what’s up with the band in the present.
The group launched a public audition process for a new frontman last year but has not named a singer to stand in the shoes of the late founding member Scott Weiland and short-term frontman Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. But bassist Robert DeLeo tells us the process is ongoing:
“It’s been very interesting. It’s an interesting process of doing that, and you get some interesting scenarios…There’s been some colorful people, I should say that. That’s the way I should say it, there’s been some colorful moments…This is not an overnight decision. This is a series of getting together with someone and really figuring out what they are all about… When it all comes together, it’ll come together. It’ll feel right and we’ll proceed forward.”
DeLeo did confirm rumors that The X Factor finalist Jeff Gutt is among those being considered for the job.
STP has been without a frontman since the late Bennington left in 2015 to focus on Linkin Park. The group’s last album was a self-titled effort in 2010, while the Core anniversary set, featuring unreleased demos, alternate versions, live recordings and more, comes out September 29 — the same day it was originally released during 1992.
