Green Day Booked For NYC’s Global Citizen Festival
The Global Citizen Festival is in its sixth year, and this year’s fest will feature one of rock’s biggest acts.
Green Day will be performing at the festival taking place September 23 on the Great Lawn in New York City’s Central Park.
In a statement on headlining the festival, Billie Joe Armstrong said, “We’re grateful to be a part of this year’s Global Citizen Festival. American aid programs make a significant difference in the betterment of lives at home and around the world, and we should all want these programs to become stronger, not weaker. We all play a part in seeing this mission through and it starts with calling on all our leaders.”
The diverse bill also includes Stevie Wonder, The Lumineers, The Chainsmokers, Pharrell Williams, Big Sean, Andra Day and Alessia Cara.
Per Global Citizen’s website, the festival’s goal is to encourage people the world over to get involved in causes and actions that bring awareness and help end extreme poverty “in the areas of education, food and hunger, health, gender equality, water and sanitation, and US foreign aid.”
The Global Citizen Festival will be simulcast live on MSNBC and MSNBC.com.
