Wonder Woman is trending on Twitter following comments from Lynda Carter, the actress who portrayed the iconic superhero on the classic TV series that ran from 1975-1979.
Carter shared on Twitter, “I didn’t write Wonder Woman, but if you want to argue that she is somehow not a queer or trans icon, then you’re not paying attention. Every time someone comes up to me and says that WW helped them while they were closeted, it reminds me how special the role is.”

While some people responded to Carter’s statement negatively, the actress did not hesitate to defend her statement citing Greg Rucka, who wrote the Wonder Woman comic book from October 2003 to April 2006. Rucka said in an interview that Diana of Themyscira is canonically queer stating, “When you start to think about giving the concept of Themyscira its due, the answer is, ‘How can they not all be in same sex relationships?’ Right? It makes no logical sense otherwise.”
