Foo Fighters took to Veeps for a special livestream event today (May 21) where they revealed their new drummer.
The livestream opened with a fun skit where the Foos bantered back and forth in their rehearsal space. During their chat, there were three fake-out moments where Chad Smith, Tommy Lee and Danny Carey entered. All three gave the impression they were the band's new drummer, but then exited. Finally, Josh Freese chimed in behind the kit. He asks the band if they could get started with the show, thus, confirming he's the new Foo drummer.
Freese is an accomplished session drummer. He's appeared on a wide variety of releases for a very diverse roster of artists. Among those artists are Bruce Springsteen, Slash, The Offspring, Miley Cyrus, Sting and many more. Additionally, he's been a member of A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails and Guns N' Roses. Foo Fighters: List of Festivals They’re Headlining in 2023
Foo Fighters will be headlining a number of festivals in 2023, which will be the first shows since their tribute concerts in honor of late drummer Taylor Hawkins.
The announcement of these headlining festival dates will likely show what the Foo Fighters will be like following the sudden passing of Hawkins in March 2022. On New Year's Eve, the band shared a statement with fans confirming they would continue but that they were "going to be a different band going forward."
The band's full statement is as follows:
"As we say goodbye to the most difficult and tragic year that our band has ever known, we are reminded of how thankful we are for the people that we love and cherish most, and for the loved ones who are no longer with us.
Foo Fighters were formed 27 years ago to represent the healing power of music and a continuation of life. And for the past 27 years, our fans have built a worldwide community, a devoted support system that has helped us all get through the darkest of times together. A place to share our joy and our pain, our hopes and fears, and to join in a chorus of life together through music. Without Taylor, we never would have become the band that we were - and without Taylor, we know that we're going to be a different band going forward.
We also know that you, the fans, meant as much to Taylor as he meant to you. And we know that when we see you again - and we will soon - he'll be there in spirit with all of us every night."
