Every day may be Pinot Noir day for you, but the official day to pay homage to one of the most popular wines in the world is August 18 and if you’re looking to grab a bottle and celebrate, there are some great wine bars and tasting rooms here in SWFL.
Pinot Noir is a wine that goes with just about anything from lighter, red meats like duck and lamb, white meats like pork, chicken and turkey, fuller flavored fish like salmon and earthy vegetables and herbs like mushrooms and thyme.
You may have heard about the health benefits that red wine can provide like lowering blood pressure, improving heart health, decreasing cholesterol levels and increasing longevity and according to Pacific Rim & Co., Pinot Noir is actually the healthiest wine because of the high levels of resveratrol which can protect you from diseases like cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s and can help with anti-aging as well. Pinot Noir also has low sugar, less calories and lower alcohol content so I see no reason to not lift a glass and say “cheers!”
And we’re in luck as the U.S. is one of the countries known for producing the best Pinot Noir in California, Oregon and New York. France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Australia and Chile are also fine producers of this wine. You won’t see these grapes grown in Florida though, as they’re very sensitive and when it comes to growing conditions, they require a cool and dry climate.
