It’s St. Patrick’s Day! That means celebrating all things Irish. It’s a big day for Irish Pubs, green beer, and delicious corned beef. After the party’s over, you might want to watch a movie while keeping the Irish theme going. Here are 5 incredible actors you might not know are Irish!

Of course, some you may already know. However, a few may come as a surprise!

5 Incredible Actors You Might Not Know Are Irish

Some of the most famous actors in the world call Ireland home. It’s no surprise, some of the greatest artists and writers in history were from Ireland. James Joyce and Oscar Wilde are some of the first to come to mind. There must be something in the water, or the beautiful green rolling hills.

Sometimes, it can be hard to tell if an actor is Irish, British, or Australian. The accents are very similar. However, there are always little ways to tell. Irish tends to sound more sing-songy. It’s one of my favorite accents in the world. I wish I had one so badly.

Making this list, I was surprised to see how many talented Irish actors are currently in the game. In fact, at the top of their game. At the top of everybody’s game, really. Irish actors have taken home some handsome hardware recently. They’ve also starred in some of the biggest movies of the year. There’s even been an Irish James Bond!

Lately, Irish actors have starred in massive blockbusters, successful Indies, comedies, action flicks, dramas, and more. So, once the party dies down and the keg is emptied out, and you’re ready for a movie to fall asleep to, consider one of these movies starring an Irish actor!

Here’s the list of 5 incredibly talented actors who you might not know are Irish. Or, maybe you knew or forgot. Either way, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  • Colin Farrell

Colin Farrell has one of the best resumes in all of Hollywood, and he’s Irish! It seems like anything he touches turns to gold. He was great recently as the Penguin. He also showed off a different side in that Thirteen Lives movie. Not to mention Bansheees. One of my favorite movies in recent years.

  • Pierce Brosnan

Remember earlier when I mentioned an Irish James Bond? I was talking about Pierce. He’s handsome, he’s talented, and he’s Irish. I know him best as James Bond, my girlfriend knows him from Mama Mia. However you may know him, he is Irish and proud!

  • Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson has a very particular set of skills. Playing an Irishman is one of them, because he is one. I was never sure where he was from. He could be Australian, could be British, could be Irish. It wasn’t until recently that I learned he was Irish. Cheers, Liam!

  • Cillian Murphy

The recent Oppenheimer star and winner of the Oscar for Best Actor is Irish! You might not know that from some of his bigger movies, but it’s true. I recently saw an interview of him talking about Ireland and his love for his homeland is massive. It was inspiring to see. There’s something special about Ireland and the Irish.

  • Jamie Dornan

Jamie Dornan is Irish! The 50 Shades Of Gray star is from Northern Ireland. He’s a fantastic actor. Seriously, if you only know him from those movies you’ve got to see more of his stuff. He has so much more to offer. It’s kind of a bummer he’s connected to that and it’s hard to escape. I think he agrees, too.
