NBA Super Teams No Longer Work
The Phoenix Suns were swept out of the NBA playoffs and it’s becoming apparent that NBA super teams no longer work. The trio of Kevin Durant, Devon Booker, and Bradley Beal was supposed to be the trio that would challenge the Denver Nuggets for supremacy in the Western Conference. Instead the Suns never found their potential on offense and were an after thought in the West by the time the playoffs rolled around. It’s the latest example that NBA super teams no longer work if you want to win an NBA Championship. Successful Trio's Since LeBron, D-Wade, and Chris Bosh teamed up in Miami, other franchises have been trying to do the same. There have been some successful trio’s since the original “Big 3” in South Beach. When Durant was added to the trio of Steph, Klay, and Draymond (which were all drafted by Golden State) they got a championship. And you can add the trio of LeBron, Kyrie, and Kevin Love as another successful Big 3. Failed Big 3's But there have been far more instances of a big 3 not working out. KD was part of another big 3 just a few years ago in Brooklyn with Kyrie Irving and James Harden. That experiment failed in spectacular fashion. Outside of the Miami Heat’s big 3, teams need to have at least 2 of the 3 already in place by the time the 3rd super star is added to the equation. Teams Win The best teams in the NBA are exactly that, teams. The Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Oklahoma City Thunder are all 56+ win teams in the 2023/24 season. NBA super teams no longer work in terms of winning championships. The league has adjusted, and the best run organizations are elite at identifying talent, developing them, and working within a structure that fosters young talent. NBA super teams no longer work.
