Tourist Busted For Smuggling Something In His Pants
“Is that an animal in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?” It is indeed an animal. Well, animals, in fact. Thailand authorities reportedly busted a tourist at an airport who was caught smuggling two otters and a prairie dog in his pants.
Video of the man’s smuggle attempt is now going viral online. Seems like a risky move…for more than one reason.

According to The New York Post, the 22-year old purchased the animals at a Bangkok market and then stashed them in his pants before arriving at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
The New York Post reports he was attempting to fly Thai Airways to Taipei, Taiwan. However, authorities spoiled his plan when they noticed his unusually large bulge moving around. Authorities then brought him to an X-ray station. Scans reportedly showed the living animals moving around in his undies.
The man was then strip searched, according to The New York Times, and the three animals were discovered. The report says the man had stuffed the animals in three separate socks and them taped them to his boxer shorts.
A video from the scene shows the man having to cut a hole in his underwear to get the animals out of there. According to The New York Post, the Asian small clawed otter, is native to Southeast Asia. It is considered vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List.
The New York Post points out that prairie dogs are also at risk of being listed as endangered. After the discovery, the man was detained and is now facing charges of violating Thailand’s Customs Act, Animal Epidemics Act, and Animal Conservation and Protection Act, according to The New York Post.
The animals were handed over to the Wildlife Conservation Office, according to The New York Post. The New York Post reports Customs Department spokesman Phanthong Loykulnant said, “Thailand is not a gateway to smuggle exotic animals out of the country. We will catch anyone who tries to take animals on planes.”
