HCA Florida started building a new standalone emergency center on Wednesday in Lee County in response to the growing number of people in the area. The HCA Florida Alico Emergency Center will be on Vintage Commerce Boulevard, right off Alico Road and Three Oaks Parkway near Interstate 75.

Eleven exam rooms will fill the building. Patients can get full emergency services there, including lab work, X-rays, CT scans, and access to ultrasound machines.

The groundbreaking happened on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m., and doors are expected to open this fall.

HCA runs two standalone emergency rooms in the county now. You'll find one in Cape Coral off Pine Island Road. The other is in Fort Myers along College Parkway.

Standalone emergency departments deliver the same quality of medical attention as hospital ERs. But they're smaller, easier to reach, and make it possible for patients to get treatment for serious problems closer to where they live.
