The San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies with a rare walk-off inside-the-park home run. It hasn't happened since 2016!

There are many exciting ways to end a baseball game. A strikeout is always cool so you can see the pitcher celebrate and bask in the glory. A home run or a walk-off grand slam is even better. What's even more rare? The walk-off inside-the-park home run. You never expect to see a game end that way but it's incredible when it does happen to...happen. Patrick Bailey accomplished the rare feat during Tuesday night's game when the San Francisco Giants took on the Philadelphia Phillies. The Giants catcher came to the plate in the 9th inning with his team down 3-1, with 1 out, and teammates on 1st and 3rd base. Then, watch what happens next.

Patrick Bailey Wins Game With Walk-Off Inside-The-Park Home Run

How cool is that? It's very rare to see an inside-the-park home run let alone one that wins the game for your team. That's amazing and so cool to see. You can even see it on his face along with all of his teammates and people in the crowd. They will likely remember that moment forever. That's one of the things that makes baseball so great.

He hit that ball in the exact right spot to execute the inside-the-park home run. At any other ball park things would have gone differently but it smacked off that high brick wall and then was sent in the opposite direction quickly allowing it to get away from the pursuing outfielders. He was hauling and despite the outfielder's best efforts he was able to make it home and beat the relay without much competition or threat of being thrown out. It's so awesome seeing the look on his face and how excited he is (along with everyone else in attendance). It can't help but bring back memories of youth baseball and that jolt that you get with a walk-off or an exciting play. They were like kids again after it happened. What an incredible moment. There's nothing like baseball.

It sounded and looked good as soon as the bat struck the ball and you can hear the home crowd's reaction at Oracle Park that they knew it had potential to be something great. Was it going to go over the fence? Was it going to be a double? A triple? Maybe even the rare inside-the-park? Could they actually end up winning this game? Afterwards, Bailey said, "Off the ball I just knew I got it well. I saw it was towards Triple Alley, and I was like, 'Oh, I got to go. I at least got to get to third.' Once I saw the bounce, I was like, 'All right, just don't fall over,'" via ESPN.

The last time we saw a walk-off inside-the-park home run in the MLB? August 19th, 2016 when Tyler Naquin did it allowing Cleveland to beat Toronto.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
