A new study has named the most (and least) diverse food cities in the U.S. The top spot might not be what you expect!

Personally, when I think of diverse food cities, I think of New York City. It's massive and home to a diverse community of people from all over the world. That's what makes it a salad bowl. So, I would assume they have the most diverse food in America. You can get it all! However, that's not the case according to this new study from Escoffier. Instead, it was 2nd place on their list. That wasn't the only surprise found in the study.

New Study Names The Most (And Least) Diverse Food Cities In The U.S.

Escoffier set out to find the most and least diverse food cities in the country and analyzed restaurant data across major cities with populations over 500k. The study included 46 different cuisines and used the Shannon Diversity Index to measure culinary variety. A density factor was also considered to account for restaurant and populations size.

When the data was analyzed, Escoffier found that the most diverse food city in the U.S. was actually San Francisco, California. I've heard they have a great food scene and you have a lot around to use--from the sea to the land and not to mention great wine and such. It makes sense but I didn't expect it to be number one in the country!

As mentioned earlier, New York City came in 2nd place. Then Seattle, Washington DC, and Los Angeles finished the Top 5 on Escoffier's study. I would have thought Chicago and New Orleans would have been higher on the list! Chicago came in at number 8 which was a major surprise. Meanwhile, New Orleans didn't crack the Top 10.

Escoffier named Detroit the least food diverse city in the country, the study says nearly 2/3 restaurants in Detroit offer only American food and fewer choices from other cuisines. Have they not been to Greek Town?

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
