Was a Florida woman charged for a hit-and-run after hitting a tree branch? That's what's being reported!

Can you imagine that happening? Honestly, I probably would have kept on driving as if it was nothing as well. I didn't know you could be charged with hit-and-run for hitting a tree branch! I guess I always assumed you had to hit a person, animal, or property of some sort. I didn't think a tree branch in a T.J. Maxx parking lot would fall into that category but here we are. Thankfully, the charges were later dropped but now the woman is speaking out about how she was emotionally impacted by the incident. It reportedly happened in Cape Coral, Florida. FOX Carolina reports that Yanelly Guzman says she was pulling into a parking spot ahead of her Christmas Eve shift at T.J. Maxx when she felt a bump. She tells WBBH, "I feel like something was making pressure on my car, so when I do that, I back up. Then, I decide to park in another spot." Later, she realized she hit a low-hanging tree branch that was hovering over that parking spot. She went into work and told her manager about it but reports say he wasn't sure what to do. Other people she talked to about it advised her to contact the Cape Coral Police Department, per FOX Carolina.

Guzman tells WBBH, "The district manager told him for me to make a report, an accident report...so I could file for a claim, so they could pay my damage. That's what I did." However, it didn't seem to go as planned. The officer ended up arresting her and charged her with a hit-and-run! Get this...the officer reportedly told her she should have left her name, car registration number, and phone number in a note hanging in the tree! In the tree! Like how you'd put it in the windshield of a car that you hit. What a horrible idea! The note is a small piece of paper! It would blow away! Wow.

FOX Carolina says that according to Florida law a person who strikes a tree on private property and leaves the scene can face up to 6 months behind bars and a fine as well. However, the state attorney's office ended up dropping the charges for insufficient evidence. She still has to pay around $4,300 in legal fees and car repairs though. That would be incredibly emotional to go through. I can't believe they arrested her after that!
