Lehigh Acres Man Busted By Vigilante Pawn Shop Owner Trying To Sell Stolen Watch On Facebook
When it comes to crime, there’s a lot of dumb criminals out there and a Lehigh Acres man was busted by a vigilante pawn shop owner trying to sell a stolen watch on Facebook.
I’m always in awe when I hear of these criminals and what they think they can get away with. And I always have to laugh when they do get busted at what their downfall is. Usually it’s something so obvious that you wonder “wow, they really thought they were being slick, huh?” Well, one Lehigh Acres man thought he really had a great idea, but learned pretty quickly that wasn’t the case.
Lehigh Acres Man Busted By Vigilante Pawn Shop Owner Trying To Sell Stolen Watch On Facebook
Travis Taylor of Lehigh Acres stole a Rolex watch from a woman’s purse while on a cruise in Tampa. And with a watch of that price, I’m sure he thought he hit the jackpot. But where did he go wrong? He tried to sell the stolen watch on Facebook Marketplace. And if it wasn’t for one stand-up pawn shop owner, he may have gotten away with it.
According to NBC2, Karl Hancock is the owner of Mr. Money Pawn & Gun, Inc. in Tampa and he was the one who sold the watch to the woman years ago. After the watch got stolen, she reached out to him to see if he knew the serial number on the watch. He did, and actually then, took matters into his own hands. Hancock found the watch on Facebook and sent a message to the seller saying he wanted to buy it for $4000. They set up a meeting at a pawn shop in Port Charlotte where Hancock had undercover detectives standing by.
After the watch was verified by serial number and it was revealed as stolen, Taylor didn’t leave with cash in hand, but rather, in cuffs. He’s being charged with dealing in stolen property.
