Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesRemember the viral video of the guy jumping at a Las Vegas judge during a court appearance? The pair were recently back in court together as she testified against him--speaking publicly on the incident for the first time.
The video went viral online and many people thought it had to be fake. In the video, the Las Vegas judge is seen speaking before a man comes flying out of seemingly nowhere and jumps at her taking her to the ground. It's like a tackle you'd see in a football game. Only this wasn't a game or a sitcom.
Las Vegas Judge Testifies Against Viral 'Judge Jumper'
According to 8 News Now, 31-year-old Deobra Redden pleaded guilty but mentally ill in his attempted murder trial. Now, he is subject to at least 3 years in prison, but that sentencing will be up to a different judge.
The original incident happened in Judge Mary Kay Holthus's courtroom back in January of 2024 when Redden, a 3-time felon, was appearing in court for a sentencing charge of attempted battery with substantial bodily harm when he jumped over the desk and attacked her on camera. The moment went viral on the internet as something like this is very rarely, if ever, seen. You can see the video below.
Everyone in that room seems surprised to see what's happening, and you can't blame them! Has anything like that ever happened inside a courtroom during a hearing? I've never seen anything like it.
It sounds like Judge Holthus was scared for her life during the attack. In court, she testified against Redden describing the incident, "I just remember saying, 'Help! Help! Somebody get him off!' In my head, I was just completely defenseless. It was scary. I didn't think I was going to get out of there," per 8 News Now. As a judge, you'd never expect someone to come flying at you like that. It's surprising he was able to even get to her before security could stop him. They must have been surprised at the unexpected move as well. According to 8 News Now, minutes after the attack, Redden was taken to a holding cell and then to the Clark County Detention Center and during the transition he allegedly told an officer he was having a bad day and was trying to kill Holthus. 8 News Now reports that Redden's family previously said he struggled with mental health. Hopefully he gets the help he needs. I've never seen anything like that in a courtroom.
5 of the Craziest Cringeworthy Crimes Ever Committed
While committing crimes may seem black and white (you either broke the law or you didn't), there are certainly some crimes that are dumber than others. Sometimes it's the crime itself that's wild, other times, it's the people committing said crimes. These are 5 of the craziest, cringeworthy crimes ever committed.
Crimes can happen anywhere, anytime, to anyone. However, it takes a very unique individual, a case study if you will, to commit some of these outrageously dumb crimes. Years ago, these criminals would have been featured on Spike TV or one of those America's Dumbest Criminal shows. Today, I'm not sure if those shows are around...and I'm certain Spike TV isn't around anymore. That's a story for another time.
Craziest Crimes
Crimes can happen for a number of reasons. They may happen out of necessity. They could also happen on accident. These crimes, however, do not fall into those categories. These crimes are different. None of these would accidentally happen. They also aren't a matter of life or death. There's no ethics quiz here, or any matters of 'would you steal bread to support your family?' These crimes, and criminals, aren't straight up cringeworthy.
While all of these crimes are crazy and certainly cringeworthy, they also make for excellent conversation pieces. That's why I've gone and found five examples of the wildest stories that Dave and Chuck the Freak have talked about and made a list highlighting the best of the best. Let's be honest...what's better than reading a story about one of the craziest crimes ever committed? Or, watching Dave and Chuck the Freak talk about some of the dumbest crimes ever committed? Personally, I'm going with the funny storytellers.
They add their own two cents and perspectives on these stories that nobody else could provide. Not even those talking heads on the dumbest criminal shows. Am I the only one who remembers those? I feel like they were a staple on TruTV or VH1, but now all I can find on TruTV is Impractical Jokers, which is awesome but...you get it. Let's not delay! Here's the list!
