An Indian man was stuck in an elevator for almost 2 days! Can you imagine the terror and boredom?

Getting stuck in an elevator is always a fear. You never know when it could happen. What do you do if it happens? These are typical thoughts when you're inside one of those boxes. Unfortunately, it happens! People do get stuck in them and it happened to a man in India who ended up being stuck in an elevator for nearly 2 full days! Here's more on the unimaginable story.

Indian Man Gets Stuck In An Elevator For Almost 2 Days

Honestly, 10 minutes inside an elevator would be a long time. Can you imagine being stuck in one for 42 hours? That means you might have to sleep there not once but twice! At that point, you'd probably think you're never getting out of there. It sounds like that's what this man believed, too.

According to BBC, Ravindran Nair, 59, was stuck in an elevator inside a hospital in the India state of Kerala for 42 hours without any food or water! Nair told BBC that he did fear he would die there. That would be terrible! Especially if you suffer from claustrophobia.

Reports say Nair went to meet a doctor on Saturday afternoon but then got stuck in an elevator until Monday morning when a lift operator finally found him. I guess that's a risk you take when you get on an elevator over the weekend, you might not be found until Monday! The whole weekend is wasted. Now, BBC reports Nair is recovering in a hospital and being treated for dehydration and back pain.

How Did An Indian Man Get Stuck In An Elevator For 2 Days?

Nair tells BBC that he tried calling the emergency number listed in the elevator, but there was no response. He also tried calling his wife and anyone he could think of but the calls wouldn't connect, per the BBC. I was thinking didn't he have his phone on him? Hearing that he had his phone and it was charged but wouldn't work makes everything so much worse! It's like a tease. Your lifeline is there but it won't help you or function as it should. This would be a traumatic event.

Nair tells BBC, "I began panicking and started banging on the lift doors to attract attention. That's when my phone fell on the floor and stopped working. I shouted and screamed for help and tried pulling apart the doors with my hands. It was no dark inside the lift, but thankfully, there was sufficient air to breathe." It was dark, too!? This is absolutely a nightmare scenario. That would make the 2 days feel even longer having no idea what time it was or how long it had been.

He tells BBC, "As the hours passed, I had no idea whether it was day or night as it was pitch dark inside. When I got tired, I slept in a corner. I had to use another corner to pee and poo." That's smart. One of the first things you should do is establish where you're going to sleep, and where you're going to use the bathroom and you should try to make them as far apart as you can. Remember Dwight did this in The Office?

Thankfully, he was able to make it home and the first thing he did after being freed was call his wife. Good guy. The BBC reports the hospital has since put up a warning outside of the elevator warning people not to use it while it's repaired. They will be using the stairs, and so will I moving forward. I couldn't handle being stuck in an elevator for 42 hours!

Are These The 5 Greatest Sitcoms Of All-Time?

What do you think are the greatest sitcoms of all-time? If you had to make a list of only 5, which shows would make the cut?

It would definitely be a difficult task! Some great shows would end up getting left off the list. However, I gave it a shot and named what I consider to be the 5 greatest sitcoms of all-time. Think about yours. Did any of yours make the list? Check it out below!

What Are The Greatest Sitcoms Of All-Time?

You've got decades of great sitcoms to consider but only 5 can end up making the list. That's a tough assignment! I feel like everyone has their own list of favorite sitcoms but when you start talking about the greatest sitcoms of all-time you have to think a little bit differently. Yes, there's a difference! You have to put your personal biases aside and think about what the best of the best truly are.

For example, South Park, Silicon Valley, and That 70s Show are some of my favorite sitcoms but I recognize that not everyone feels that way. So, while I'd put them on my list of favorite sitcoms I can't put them on what I imagine the greatest list to be. I have to remove my personal taste from the equation. However, I can still be wrong! So you'll have to let me know if one of the 5 should be replaced and what you'd replace it with.

To create this list of the 5 greatest sitcoms I considered popularity, cultural impact, longevity, and a few other pieces of criteria. Is it going to be perfect? No, it won't be. Is it going to end up being just a list of my favorite shows? Again, nope I'll be honest one of the shows on the list I've barely ever watched and another I'd love to replace with one of the shows above but feel like for the sake of the general population and majority, I kept it on the list.

Ready to see what made the final five? Check out the list below! Make sure to let us know what show we missed and what you'd replace it with on the list.

Seinfeld

I'd consider Seinfeld to be the best sitcom of all-time. I'm sure people will disagree, but it's really hard to deny. Even 30 years later we're still quoting it all the time. People still talk about "pulling a Costanza" in a situation and most of the people around will fully understand what they mean. It's a timeless classic that's still bringing the laughs today. It's number one in my book.

The Office

It's hard to name a sitcom within the last 20 years that has had the cultural impact that The Office has had. Everyone knows it and very few dislike it. Could the British version replace it on the list? Absolutely, but I don't think it ran for long enough to make the list. It's still definitely worth the watch, though! Michael Scott could be one of the greatest TV characters of all-time and the show changed a lot without him. However, those first 8 seasons are certainly strong enough to earn the show a spot in the top 5.

Friends

The Friends finale was more than just an episode, it was a cultural experience. People still remember where they were on that day. It's hard to see keys on the counter without thinking about that final scene. Friends was hilarious and dominate TV and pop culture. What other shows had a popular haircut named after a character that wasn't ironic? It might not be my favorite but it deserves a spot on the list. Or am I just showing my age?

Cheers

I told you earlier that one show was going to make the list that I don't really watch. Cheers is that show. I have never really watched it. Sure, I've seen episodes here and there. I know the basic plot. I know the theme song. I also know that it's one of the greatest sitcoms of all-time and had a lot of fans during its run on TV. It is one of the best examples of the "will they won't they?" that The Office helped make popular. Ted Danson has been in a lot of great TV shows, this is one of the best.

The Simpsons

When it comes to animated comedies, I'm a South Park guy. Honestly, I watch more South Park, Family Guy, and American Dad than I do The Simpsons. However, a show doesn't run as long as it has without being special and excellent. There's no denying that The Simpsons is great. I just have always preferred the other shows. It deserves a spot on the list. You can't talk TV comedies and not talk about The Simpsons.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
