Hand Grenades Allegedly Found In Carry-On Luggage At Hawaii Airport
Airports are a crazy place to be these days. If the plane isn't falling a part in the air, you still have to deal with nude passengers, stolen cars, and people trying to bring illegal objects onto planes! According to Hawaii News Now, authorities at a Hawaii airport arrested a traveler from Japan for first-degree terroristic threatening after it's alleged he brought 2 hand grenades in his carry-on luggage. It reportedly happened at the Hilo International Airport in Hawaii. The suspect has since been identified as Akito Fukushima of Kanazawa, Japan.
Thankfully, the grenades were discovered ahead of time during pre-flight screening. Hawaii News Now reports that the airport was evacuated after the grenades were discovered and they were investigated by a bomb squad. The grenades were determined to be inert. That means that they were hollowed out and physically unable to explode. However, even seeing one can be seen as a threat and can cause a lot of problems.
Hawaii County Police Captain Brian Prudencio tells Hawaii News Now, "We remind the public to be mindful of what they travel with. If they have any questions, contract the TSA for any items that--whether or not they question, what they can travel with."
TSA reminds the public that grenades of any type (including replicas) are not allowed in your luggage. You can see Akito's mugshot below.
