Florida Man Arrested For Shooting Down Walmart Delivery Drone
Although we’ve become a bit numb to all the silliness that happens here, what got this Florida Man arrested was a little different than most. The Clermont, Florida man was busted for shooting a Walmart Delivery Drone. And based on the arrest report – that was one hell of a shot.
On Wednesday of this week, the arrest affidavit reports that a 2 man crew for the company DroneUp were in Florida working on a proof-of-concept mock delivery to their location from Wal Mart. The drone has been traveling about 230 feet in the air when it descended to 75 feet as it approached the drop off location. That’s when the DroneUp employees heard what they thought to be a gunshot. The crew and the drone quickly retreated back to the Wal Mart at U.S. 27 and Johns Lake Road in Clermont, Florida where they discovered a bullet hole in the payload the drone was carrying.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was notified and responded to the Clermont area where the incident took place. According to a facebook post “Witnesses identified the defendant, Dennis Winn, and directed deputies to his residence, the incident location. Contact was made with the defendant at his residence, where a Miranda interview was conducted and the Florida Man arrested. Post-Miranda, the suspect admitted to shooting at the drone once with a 9mm pistol.”
Florida Man Arrested – More Questions Arise
Here’s where things get a lot more interesting. Winn said he was working on his pool pump when the incident occurred. He claimed to have had past experiences with drones that he thought were surveilling him. So not only do we have a Florida Man arrested for shooting a Wal Mart drone, we have questions. Who is 72 year old Dennis Winn and why does he carry a 9mm pistol in his own yard for protection against drones that may be watching him? And most importantly, how was able to shoot a moving target 75 feet in the air – with a handgun? That’s quite a shot. Is this guy an ex-military sniper or what?
I’d really like to know what 9mm pistol this guy is packing.
Unfortunately for Dennis, you’re not allowed to shoot at drones. That’s what got this Florida Man arrested. The Florida Stand Your Ground law states that you must be in imminent danger before you can start blasting. You’re allowed to shoot people or bears if they come into your yard, but not Wal Mart drones. Welcome To Florida.
