Tom Cruise is part of a couple of massive franchises: Top Gun and Mission: ImpossibleTop Gun 3 is now in the works, although few details have been announced. The eighth (and maybe final?) Mission: Impossible film, Dead Reckoning Part 2, is due May 23, 2025. But what a lot of movie fans have been hoping for is news about a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, which was released in theaters ten years ago today.

Edge of Tomorrow wasn’t a massive hit back in 2014, but it has grown in prestige over the years. It’s just one of those movies that builds a cult audience after leaving the theaters, like Office Space, Donnie Darko, or The Big Lebowski

If you missed it, it’s a sci-fi flick that deals with time travel, in the sort of way that Groundhog Day did. Earth has fallen under attack from unbeatable aliens. Major William Cage – played by Tom Cruise – is a military officer who has never seen combat. He’s in public relations - he gets the glory of the uniform without having to shed blood. That is, until he gets assigned to a suicide mission, in which he gets killed in seconds.

But it’s Tom Cruise’s character - so obviously, he doesn’t die. In fact, he gets stuck in a time loop, forced to live the same day over and over, and he keeps getting killed in different ways. Over and over and over. Clearly, he’s meant to get the day “right” and will be stuck in this hellish time loop until that happens. He meets Sergeant Rita Vrataski – played by Emily Blunt – who is a war hero. And we learn that she used to have the same “ability” that he does - she relived the same day over and over.

We won’t give away more than that – if you haven’t seen the movie, you should, and we don’t want to spoil anything (everything we’ve said so far is fairly common knowledge about the film). We will say that it’s pretty self-contained. However, one could imagine different ways to continue the story.

But a trailer for “Edge of Tomorrow 2” just surfaced on YouTube this week, and some fans have been understandably excited about it. Unfortunately, it’s a fake (you can see it here).

One rule of thumb to keep in mind when you happen upon a movie trailer online: look who posted it. Especially if you hadn’t heard of the film before. Normally, trailers are posted by film studios, like 20th Century Studios, Marvel Entertainment, Lionsgate, A24, Sony Pictures Entertainment and so forth. Occasionally, trailers will be serviced to media outlets, which can then post them on their social accounts, like Nerdist or Entertainment Tonight. But if a film - particularly one with a major star like Tom Cruise - is posted only by a name you’re not familiar with, odds are, it’s a hoax of some kind. The “Edge of Tomorrow 2” trailer was posted by Foxstar Media, which features lots of fake trailers, including “World War Z 2” and “Popeye: Live Action Movie.”

But the news isn’t all bad for fans of the film. In February, Variety reported that Warner Brothers Motion Picture Group heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy met with Tom Cruise, with whom they have a nonexclusive “strategic partnership” with. Among the things they discussed was a follow-up to Edge of Tomorrow. But other than confirmation that it was discussed, there hasn’t been any real news about a sequel.

And at 61, Cruise may not want to keep cranking out action films. In fact, the article references him wanting to go back to working with critically respected auteurs, as he did in the ‘90s with Paul Thomas Anderson in Magnolia and the late Stanley Kubrick in Eyes Wide Shut

For now, if you haven’t seen Edge of Tomorrow, you now have a cool new movie to check out. And if you’re a fan waiting for the sequel, keep in mind that sometimes, one installment should be enough. Or do we need to remind you about how one of Cruise’s less-celebrated sequels. Have you forgotten about the Jack Reacher sequel turned out? The title - Jack Reacher: Never Go Back - kind of tells the story, and the less we say about that, the better.

Sexiest Short Kings Under 5’7″

When it comes to being sexy, height is not a factor. For these male celebrities under 5 feet 7 inches, they prove just that. As Urban Dictionary describes it, a "short king" is "a man who realizes that his lack of height has nothing to do with his perception of his own self-worth." That's exactly what these leading men in the entertainment industry do -- they break barriers. Hollywood's hottest used to be reserved for the most buff, tallest men. But now, being under the average national height isn't even a factor in a celebrity's hotness level. For the short kings who are on this list, their shortness makes them even more attractive.

Height Statistics

The average height for men 20 years or older is about 5 feet 9 inches tall. Factors like genetics, nutrition, and medical conditions can affect a person's height. This average is based on 2015–2016 data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to Health, humans are taller than their ancestors. Ten thousand-year-old male skeletons from Europe measured 5 feet 6 inches. Even looking back to only the 1960s, the average male was an inch shorter than today’s measurements. Some countries have seen more drastic trends. One study found men in Iran have grown about 6.7 inches in the last 100 years -- that's the largest height gain in the world.

Despite humans being taller than our ancestors, our society used to rag on short men. There are still people out there who aren't attracted to others under a certain height, but for those who don't find it to be a hindrance, short men can be as hot as, if not hotter, than those who are vertically inclined. Thanks to social media apps like TikTok, short kings videos have nearly 36 million views. Or even Saturday Night Live's hilarious segment about "petite princes" and tiny titans."

Take a look at our list of the sexiest short kings under 5'7" below:
