Everyone loves Doritos. We can’t get enough of the delicious snack. There are several flavors and options in every store, even our tacos now have shells made of Doritos. Now, Doritos liquor is a real thing that actually exists.
That’s right! You can now find Doritos in the chips aisle and the alcohol department. The popular chip brand has partnered with Empirical Spirits for this 84-proof liquor that FoodAndWine.com says smells and tastes like the real thing.
Doritos Liquor Coming Soon
Now, I’m very familiar with the taste and smell of Doritos. However, I can’t wrap my head around how this must taste. A cheesy liquor? I don’t know about that.
According to FoodAndWine.com, Lars Williams is ensuring the integrity of the new booze. The co-founder of Empirical Spirits reportedly has been steering the company towards “uncategorized spirits,” per FoodAndWine.com. That means it’s not a vodka, gin, rum, or whiskey. It’s its own thing. Which only makes all of this more confusing. Although FoodAndWine.com points out it seems to be closest to a cheese-flavored vodka.
According to FoodAndWine.com, Williams shared this about the origin story of Doritos liquor, “In Empirical’s very early days in Copenhagen, a team member returned from lunch with a sandwich and a bag of Doritos. Curiosity led me to turn this snack into a spirit.” He went on to say that when they started sharing their creation it was greatly received by friends and chefs alike.
Does it actually smell and taste like the real thing? According to FoodAndWine.com it does! Brad Japhe of FoodAndWine.com writes “it leaves your palate with a drying note, akin to what accumulates on your tongue after you’ve crushed a sizable bag of corn chips.”
The folks at PepsiCo are aware and impressed by the mash-up creation, according to FoodAndWine.com. They say it will be available on shelves next month and is set to retail around $65, per FoodAndWine.com.

Cort Freeman was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He was named Clarkston High School 2009 Class Clown 13 years after graduating. Totally normal thing to happen. That’s thanks to his time spent as an Intern at Comedy Central and Social Media Correspondent for The Colbert Report. Cort has done comedy across the country, both standing up and sitting down. When he’s not trying to make you laugh on-air and online, he’s probably at home enjoying his favorite shows like Seinfeld, South Park, and The Office. He’s also totally uncomfortable writing about himself in the third person. Cort enjoys writing about comedy, food, sports, and entertainment. So, basically anything and everything.
