It's almost time to ring in the New Year. What will 2024 bring? We have no idea. What we do know is New Year's Eve is one of the biggest party nights of the year. WalletHub just released its annual list of the best cities for New Year's Eve.

No matter what city you're in, you'll find celebrations for New Year's Eve on December 31st. However, some cities do it better than others. Now, we know where the party is really at.

To determine which cities are the best for New Year's Eve, WalletHub considered a number of factors. They compared the 100 biggest cities in the country based on 26 characteristics of a fantastic New Year's Eve celebration.

Their data set ranges from legality of fireworks in a city, nightlife options, weather forecasts, and more. All of those factors should create a fun New Year's Eve. The problem? Not every city can give you that criteria.

Orlando, Florida took the number one spot on the list. According to WalletHub, Orlando is the best city in the country for New Year's Eve. While you'd probably expect New York City to take the top spot, it shouldn't be a surprise to see Orlando at number one. It ranked number 1 for Entertainment and Food Rank. Disney World in Orlando definitely made an impact on the results. It's a great place to be for New Year's Eve, or any holiday.

New York City ended up taking the Bronze Medal, according to WalletHub. It appears to have been weighed down by its cost rank which came in at 91 out of 100. Again, that shouldn't be a surprise. New York City is crazy expensive any time of the year, I can imagine it doesn't get any cheaper over New Year's Eve.

Two cities in Florida made the top 10 with Orlando (3) and Miami (6). Las Vegas (4), San Diego (3), and Atlanta (5) also made the top five once WalletHub analyzed the results. Tampa ended up in 24th place, Boston in 34th, and Detroit landed at number 60 on WalletHub's annual list.

According to the History Channel, the ancient Babylonians, credited with pioneering this practice some 4,000 years ago, observed a different commencement of the year in mid-March, coinciding with the planting of crops. Their 12-day religious festival, Akitu, involved the coronation of a new king or the reaffirmation of loyalty to the reigning one. Interestingly, the Babylonians made pledges to the gods, promising to settle debts and return borrowed items. Fulfilling these commitments was believed to garner favor from the pagan deities for the ensuing year.
