Florida Man Attempts to ‘Trick’ Police with Loaded Gun Halloween Costume
Halloween may be the season of tricks and treats, but for one Florida man, it turned into a night of questionable choices that got him a pair of shiny handcuffs instead of candy. Michael Ribar, a 22-year-old from DeLand, was recently caught red-handed—literally—carrying a loaded gun into a packed bar, and his excuses read like something out of a comedy show.
According to the New York Post, Ribar was sporting a bulletproof vest, a mask, and a tactical belt. It’s not your typical bar attire, to say the least. Concerned partygoers flagged the police when they spotted Ribar flaunting his visible handgun on his right hip.
When the law arrived, Ribar handed over the gun, which was found to have a live round in the chamber. But this wasn’t just your run of the mill costume… He had an arsenal of excuses up his sleeve. First, he claimed he had come straight from the shooting range and “just threw this on”. Because, you know, who doesn’t accessorize their bulletproof vest?
But when asked why he didn’t leave the gun in his car, he merely shrugged, probably hoping his bulletproof vest could protect him from tough questions. He then tried to pull a fast one, suggesting he found a clever loophole for carrying a gun in a liquor-serving establishment. Thinking it would be okay to sit in the dining area, far away from the bartenders. Smooth, right?

However, Ribar’s best claim was that it was all just part of his Halloween costume. You see, he thought he could blend in with other costumed folks by channeling a heavily armed vigilante. “I figured because it was Halloween, I could try,” he confessed. Well, points for creativity, but that’s a real “boo who” on you.
In the end, Ribar’s girlfriend spilled the beans, revealing that he hadn’t even been to the shooting range that day and had been planning this stupid adventure for hours. The bar owner had seen enough and asked Ribar to leave, but not before the police slapped him with charges of open carrying of weapons.
Ribar was eventually let out after coming up with a $1,000 bond, but one can only wonder what his costume was supposed to be. Police officer? Action hero? Or just a guy who made the stupidest costume choice ever? Halloween may be a time for strange outfits, but this one took the cake, and the vest, and the gun.
