We are still in hurricane season in Florida. Although storms tend to be less frequent in October, they are still popping up. Hurricane Idalia might be a mere memory for some Southwest Florida residents. However, it did bring significant wind, rain and water to homes and business in Collier, Lee and Charlotte Counties. Repairs are ongoing so it's good to know that more Hurricane Idalia help for Charlotte County residents is now available.
In fact, four FEMA Disaster Assistance Teams are now on the ground. They are canvassing many areas of the county that were impacted by the storm. Idalia hit Florida on August 30th as a strong category four storm. It skirted our area before releasing its fury on the Big Bend area. Along the way, it pushed lots of water into many areas of Southwest Florida still recovering from Hurricane Ian.
On October 2nd Charlotte County officials made an amendment to the Hurricane Idalia Major Disaster Declaration that makes residents eligible for FEMA assistance. This includes debris removal, which for some, is much needed help. You have to apply to receive that help.
The FEMA teams are now on the ground offering help with general information, registration, and other assistance. These team members always have an official identification badge. So if they show up at your home or business, ask to see it. The deadline to apply for individual assistance is October 30th.

Residents Of Florida’s Gulf Coast Prepare For Hurricane Idalia
We're seeing it on the news and on social media, it's crunch time to prepare for Hurricane Idalia.
It's been nearly a year since Hurricane Ian came roaring along the Florida Gulf Coast making a direct hit on us here in Southwest Florida. Less than one month from today, on September 28, 2023, it will be one year since the worst storm to hit Fort Myers Beach made it's mark.
While there is still so much rebuilding to be done, progress is being made. While the threat of Idalia doesn't seem to be too great to folks in Southwest Florida at the given moment, and we all know that can change, there is a major threat headed towards our neighbors to the north.
After last year, it seems Floridians are being more cautious and have a plan to prepare for Hurricane Idalia
With less than 24 hours before Idalia will make landfall, folks up and down the Florida Gulf coast are doing what they can to prepare for strong winds, rain and storm surge.
