The drug is getting hard to find.
(Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)Ozempic was developed as a diabetes drug, but someone along the way discovered that it can also help users lose weight. Now, the massive increase in use has created a shortage of the drug in the U.S. Is Ozempic safe? Will it work for you? A doctor in Lakeland tells us all about it.
Back when the Food and Drug Administration approved Ozempic for the treatment of diabetes, weight loss was not even mentioned or considered in its use. Since then, demand for the drug has gone through the roof, after doctors credited it for helping users lose weight, up to 15% of total body weight on average. While some patients reported significant weight loss, others reported less. Due to the massive nationwide response, availability of the drug is now being stretched to its limits. Pharmacies and doctors are having a hard time keeping Ozempic on hand.
Dr. Lillian Chiques of the Watson Clinic in Lakeland told a reporter from WFLA that demand has increased substantially recently, saying patients are wanting to use the drug for weight loss instead of diabetes treatment. While the drug was designed to help patients control type 2 diabetes, the weight loss aspect cannot be ignored. There is a downside, however. Patients who need the drug for its intended purpsoe have had a hard time getting it. When that happens, patients are forced to take a similar medication instead.
Ozempic has been around since 2017, when it was approved by the FDA to treat diabetes and reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular disease. It has not been approved for weight management. The manufacturer stresses that the drug is not intended for weight loss, even though doctors are prescribing itm to do so. If you are interested in Ozempic (semaglutide), you should consult your doctor. Source: WFLA.com

Dolly Parton celebrates her 77th birthday today (1/19). And to mark the occasion, she's releasing a new song. She told The View, "I had written a song a few months ago. I had a dream about God standing on a mountaintop saying, 'Don't make me have to come down there.' Paying Tribute To A Hippy
David Crosby: Stephen Stills, Graham Nash & More Pay Tribute
David Crosby was able to touch many lives through music. Some of music's biggest names took to social media upon the news of the singer-songwriter's passing at age 81.
Two of the most notable names were bandmates Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. Stills honored Crosby saying, in part, "David lived a life of deep and enduring gratitude and was an extraordinary, richly sentient being. His music will live on through us all even as he now sails to his eternal sunset."
Nash's tribute read, in part, "I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years. David was fearless in life and in music. He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world."
The full remarks from Stills and Nash can be read below along with other tributes from the entertainment world.
Stephen Stills
"On behalf of Stephen Stills' Gold Hill Music family we are devastated to learn of David Crosby's passing and it is only the memory of such a unique and full life so well lived that must sustain us through this period of profound grief. David lived a life of deep and enduring gratitude and was an extraordinary, richly sentient being. His music will live on through us all even as he now sails to his eternal sunset. We appreciate you respecting the family's privacy during this difficult time."
Graham Nash
"It is with a deep and profound sadness that I learned that my friend David Crosby has passed. I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another, and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years. David was fearless in life and in music. He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world. He spoke his mind, his heart, and his passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy. These are the things that matter most. My heart is truly with his wife, Jan, his son, Django, and all of the people he has touched in this world." https://www.instagram.com/p/CnnRbZ4rbRL/

"The world has lost yet another ethereal fixture of the ‘60s peace and love movement; a legend within his own right, and every group he was a part of. Coming up in the same era as The Doors, David Crosby had the voice and song writing abilities that made him completely unique..."

Rest in peace to the brilliant David Crosby. He will be greatly missed."
Jorma Kaukonen/Jefferson Airplane
"Early this morning I got a text from someone in California who had heard that my old friend David Crosby had passed. I chose at the time not to believe it. There are so many lies on the internet that sometimes it is easy to dodge the truth. This time it turned out to be true.
I met David at the Offstage on First Street in San Jose, California in 1962 or ’63. He came up from Venice with Paul Kantner to play that little venue and hang out in the South Bay Folk scene for a while. He was always brash and self-confident… two qualities he never lost. He was a great artist who was always true to himself.
He was my friend and what we shared transcended the music. I will miss him!"
Sebastian Bach
"As much as I loved his music I loved his thoughts on Twitter as well. Rest In Peace David Crosby. Thank you for the lifetime of inspiration."
