Frisbee Golf, or disc golf, is very popular here in Florida. It’s a great way to get exercise and enjoy local parks. There are safety precautions that should be followed, though. This is also mating season for alligators, making them more aggressive than usual…even confrontational. It’s not all that uncommon for disc golf players to land their discs in the water, where they often leave them. Some people retrieve the discs from the waters by searching and diving to get them. It’s far more dangerous than you’d think, especially at this time of year, when alligators are far more active. Authorities say they believe that’s what happened earlier this week after they discovered a body in a local pond. Trappers arrived at the scene yesterday and had trapped a large gator they think is responsible for the incident at approximately 5 pm. Video caught by WFLA shows the alligator being brought to shore just before it was euthanized. A necropsy of the gator will be performed to determine if it was the actual animal to attack the man. Loal residents say the body of water has been known to be filled with alligators. They also told reporters that they often see people jumping in the water in an effort to retrieve lost discs. The identity of the man who died has not been released, pending notification of his family. Another man was bitten in the face by an alligator as he tried to retrieve his golf disc back in 2020.
