NAPLES, FL- After almost 20 years, a family finally received some closure. But some questions are still left unanswered.

Back in 2002, a body was found floating in the Gulf Of Mexico by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

For the past two decades, the CCSO has been attempting to identify the body. They’ve submitted his fingerprints into the Florida Department of Law Enforcement database and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System. They’ve even checked different databases using his DNA, dental records, and composite sketches, but still came up empty-handed.

Finally, back in late November, they got a hit on the man’s fingerprints. He was identified as Edward Lorenz Richard, 49, of Spencer, Massachusetts. His fingerprints were matched up to those in his military files.

His family was located and informed that Edward had been identified. His family then went on to tell authorities that he had up and left Massachusetts and had taken a bus to Florida, leaving all of his identification behind. They never heard from him ever again.

The cause of death is still undetermined.
